Die Ermittlung
Peter Weiss's documentary play *Die Ermittlung* (The Investigation) depicts the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trials of 1963–1965, in which those responsible for the Nazi extermination machinery stood trial. Structured as an "oratorio" in eleven songs, the play presents witnesses, defendants, judges, and defense attorneys recounting what happened in Auschwitz.
