This event is the world premiere of Richard Wagner's final opera, *Parsifal*, which took place at the Bayreuth Festival Theatre in 1882. The work, based on the legend of the Holy Grail, was staged exclusively at Bayreuth for decades under what Wagner's family called the "Bühnenweihfestspiel" (festival consecration drama).
