Retour de flamme
« Retour de flamme » is a French expression meaning a **backlash or backfire** — when an action taken against someone or something ends up turning back against its originator, like a fire's flame blowing back toward the person who lit it. It can also refer to negative consequences rebounding onto the instigator of a plan or attack.
