Charles-François Sturm (1803–1855) was a French mathematician best known for Sturm's theorem, a method for determining the number of real roots of a polynomial within a given interval. He also made significant contributions to the theory of differential equations through the Sturm–Liouville theory, developed in collaboration with Joseph Liouville.
