**Heimsuchung** (German for "Visitation") refers to the Christian event in which the Virgin Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited her relative Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. During this meeting (Luke 1:39–56), Elizabeth blessed Mary, and Mary proclaimed the hymn of praise known as the Magnificat. The event is commemorated in the Feast of the Visitation.
