Dies academicus
A **Dies academicus** ("academic day" in Latin) is a ceremonial university event, common at European institutions, in which the academic community gathers for formal speeches by the rector or president, awards and honorary degrees, and reflections on the university's mission and achievements—often marking anniversaries or the start of the academic year.
