**Carmen** is Georges Bizet's famous 1875 opera about a fiery, free-spirited gypsy cigarette factory worker who seduces the naive soldier Don José, leading him to abandon his career and sweetheart—only for him to turn violent when she leaves him for the dashing toreador Escamillo, culminating in tragedy outside the bullring in Seville.
