The Temperance Movement
The Temperance Movement was a social and political campaign, strongest in the 19th and early 20th centuries, that advocated for reducing or banning the consumption of alcohol due to its perceived harms to families and society. It culminated in the United States with Prohibition (1920–1933), when the 18th Amendment made the manufacture and sale of alcohol illegal.
