**La Walkyrie** (Die Walküre) is an opera by Richard Wagner, the second work in his four-opera cycle *The Ring of the Nibelung*, in which the god Wotan's daughter, the Valkyrie Brünnhilde, defies her father to protect the forbidden lovers Siegmund and Sieglinde—twins whose son Siegfried will become the cycle's hero.
