The *Wende* ("turning point") refers to the period of peaceful political transformation in East Germany in 1989–1990, when mass protests and the collapse of the SED regime led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and ultimately German reunification. The term is also used more broadly to describe other major political shifts or "turning points."
