Hagelslag
**Hagelslag** is a popular Dutch breakfast food consisting of chocolate sprinkles (or sometimes fruit or anise-flavored ones) scattered over buttered bread or toast. Invented in the Netherlands in the early 20th century, it remains a beloved everyday staple, especially among Dutch children, and is traditionally eaten with the butter applied first so the sprinkles stick to the bread.
