**Nightfall** is a science fiction event (from Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg's novel) in which the sun sets once every 2,049 years on the planet Kalgash, revealing thousands of stars for the first time. The sudden sight of a star-filled sky drives the inhabitants mad with terror, causing civilization to collapse into chaos and fire.
