Götterfunken
"Götterfunken" (German for "spark of the gods") is a phrase from Friedrich Schiller's 1785 poem "An die Freude" (Ode to Joy), famously set to music in the final movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (1824). The line "Freude, schöner Götterfunken" ("Joy, beautiful spark of the gods") opens the work, which celebrates universal brotherhood and has since become the Anthem of Europe.
