Fanny Hensel (1805–1847) was a German composer and pianist, and the older sister of Felix Mendelssohn, who wrote over 460 pieces of music including the famous "Das Jahr" piano cycle. Though societal constraints of her era largely confined her to private salons rather than public performance, she is now celebrated as one of the most significant female composers of the 19th century.
