Titanic
The RMS Titanic, a British luxury ocean liner touted as "unsinkable," struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York on April 14, 1912, and sank in the North Atlantic early the next morning. More than 1,500 of the roughly 2,200 people aboard died, largely due to an insufficient number of lifeboats, making it one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history.
