FAUSTGretchen
In Goethe's *Faust*, the relationship between Faust and Gretchen centers on Faust's seduction of the young, innocent Gretchen, facilitated by Mephistopheles. The affair ends in tragedy: Gretchen's mother and brother are killed, she drowns her illegitimate newborn in despair, and she is condemned to prison, ultimately finding redemption through divine grace.
