Arrival Vasco da Gama
Vasco da Gama's arrival refers to his landing at Calicut, India in May 1498, after becoming the first European to reach India by sea by sailing around Africa's Cape of Good Hope. This event opened a direct maritime trade route between Europe and Asia, launching the Portuguese spice trade and a new era of European colonial expansion.
