Der Geisterseher
*Der Geisterseher* ("The Ghost-Seer," 1787) is an unfinished novella by Friedrich Schiller in which the German prince Christian travels to Venice, where clever swindlers use mysterious "supernatural" occurrences—apparent apparitions and prophecies—to manipulate him into converting to Catholicism and joining an secret order, exposing how charlatans exploit superstition and belief.
