Dauer
The **dauer** is a developmentally arrested, stress-resistant larval stage in the nematode *Caenorhabditis elegans*, entered when food is scarce, population density is high, or temperatures are unfavorable. Dauer larvae are non-feeding, long-lived, and can resume normal development to reproductive adults once conditions improve.
