Franz Marc
Franz Marc (1880–1916) was a German painter and printmaker who co-founded the influential Expressionist art movement Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider). He is best known for his vividly colored, symbolic paintings of animals—especially blue horses and yellow cows—which he viewed as representing spiritual purity, before his death in World War I.
