"Schmotziger Donnerstag" (also spelled Schmotz´ger Donnerstag) is the traditional start of the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht (carnival) season in southwestern Germany, taking place on the Thursday before Lent. This notice indicates that school ends early at 11:00 a.m. on this day so students can attend the local carnival celebrations and festivities.
