Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance astronomer who proposed the heliocentric model, arguing that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun rather than the Earth being the center of the universe. His 1543 work *De revolutionibus orbium coelestium* laid the foundation for modern astronomy and sparked a major shift in scientific thought known as the Copernican Revolution.
