Charles-François Sturm (1803–1855) was a French mathematician best known for Sturm's theorem (1829), a method for determining the number of real roots of a polynomial within a given interval, and for his collaboration with Joseph Liouville on Sturm–Liouville theory, which concerns boundary value problems for differential equations.
