The Bends
The Bends (decompression sickness) is a condition that occurs when dissolved nitrogen forms bubbles in the bloodstream and tissues during rapid decompression, such as when divers ascend too quickly from deep water. It causes joint pain, dizziness, and potentially serious neurological symptoms, and is treated with gradual recompression in a hyperbaric chamber.
